I title this 2015 “declaration” rather than “resolution” mainly because I realized I accomplish more goals when I make assertions, and I happen to know exactly why. If I set my alarm for seven a.m. and tell myself, “I might get up and go for a run if I feel like it in the morning,” then it’s not happening. However, if I say “I am going to get up and go for a run,” eight times out of ten it is going to happen. Even more, if I tell someone else I’m going for a run in the morning, it is most definitely happening. The ‘someone else’ in this case is you, the reader, except I’m not using this to get myself to go on a morning run. I plan to use this trick to conquer Europe. But first, I wanted to refer back to another assertion I made (here), mainly because I’d hate to be known as someone who doesn’t follow through.
1. Learn Portuguese <– My first class is January 21st, at the Freestyle Language Center in downtown Austin.
2. Travel to Europe & blog <– Unfortunately, some things I would like to accomplish won’t happen just because I declare it. Which is why I am going to follow with another powerful assertion, one of which mothers are particularly fond of. “Fake it until you make it.” After all, that’s pretty much how I’ve managed to have a blog in the first place. Nobody deemed me a blogger, it’s a self given title. Even so, I plan to make the trip happen regardless of whether I’m paid to report my experiences. Plus, I already bought the perfect journal (it’s a map with gold writing that says Travel Awaits) for writing about the incredible people I plan to meet & places I promise to explore.
The research has to start now, which is where my plea comes in.
